Up until today mine was poached eggs! No matter what I did they either came out uncooked or hard boiled lol. Gave up even trying them. Till I found this method online lastnight, tried it today and hey presto- perfect poached eggs!
So what is your food demon!??

( BTW for the eggs - 3-4 inches water in saucepan, bring to full simmer, then turn down to  low simmer. Add tbsp white vinegar to water - to set the whites. Crack egg into cup then slide slowly into water. Repeat with as many eggs as you need. Put lid on, turn heat off and leave for exactly 4 mins. Lift cooked eggs out of water!)

^ Do you keep turning them over as you are cooking them? Most people do that but you shouldn't because each side and into the middle doesn't get hot enough.  You need to cook one side and then the other and not turn them over.

white sauce

Barmaid, you've reminded me that I do have a potato ricer. Thank you!

David - rump steaks, I guess it depends how you like them. Some like them rare(not me), but some like medium.

Thank you for that recipe!!!  I love poached eggs, but they were always 'iffy'.  I'll try them. xx

Bread - I can't bake bread.  Been trying for over 40 years.  I even bought a breadmaker, the same one as my daughters each have and from which they produce lovely loaves..... guess what? :(

lol, sounds like me with my breadmaker! But my FIL can bake perfect bread, not even in a bread maker, just in his oven. So annoying lol!

I cheat with steaks and cook them sous vide just before flashing in a pan with butter.  When I first bought my sous vide thing, Mr BM just thought it was a gimmick, until I cooked him a rump SV and then he shut up.

If I didn't have to cook I wouldn't.  A complete waste of time.  You spend hours creating and then whoosh!  It's gone!  The blighters ruin it by demolishing the lot!  😃

I'm sure you'd be more miffed if they left a lot 😁

True, canary.  😂

I'd probably agree with you Naomi, but cooking is my wind down.  I go into the kitchen, glass of wine, put my talking book on or MY music and just produce stuff.

Last weekend I ended up helping at a neighbour's party, everyone was saying "come and enjoy yourself, you shouldn't be working etc" and my response was "I am drinking someone else's wine and destroying someone else's kitchen, I'm in heaven".

That's the sort of thing I'd do, BM.  Party?  What party?  😂

bednobs:  I used to find white sauce (roux) difficult (always got lumps or burnt it) until I got a microwave which is where I now do it - in a pyrex jug, with frequent interruptions to whisk it - with practice I soon got to judge intervals between interruptions.  I also use this method for scrambled eggs and get terrific results.

Any food. I'm the only person in the world who can burn water. 😄

Lumpy roux is why sieves were invented.  Also, warm the milk before adding it.

Barmaid - I swear you are related to my FIL! We got him a sous vide machine for his birthday this year and he was in heaven! His idea of bliss is a day in the kitchen cooking god knows what, with Alexa playing whatever he fancies, and with an endless top up of red wine!

I've been all day in the kitchen today dealing with various veg and fruits from the garden.  And racked some cucumber wine. Finished my most recent book, listened to some questionable tunes (Mr BM shakes his head at my play lists), but the freezer is filling up and the pantry with jams/preserves.  I won't pay for it if we can grow it ourselves and preserve it.
