Thanks

What are some pros / cons  of someone taking medical retirement ?

pension scheme

BUT he may find a way to be certified  as unfit for work, and stay at work, then the Employer pays ( whatever the sick pay whack is)

My father did this in er 1964 - but you know 60 y later

Depends very much on the personal circumstances, there are no black and white answers

being unable to work thro illness - -  not usually a choice

Buhzeel - yur fren' needs advice from someone who knows his pension scheme ( like his union rep) and has advised on this.

and not us well intentioned walk-ins

Sista in theatres ( operating theatres that  is!) advised someone to retire early when she shd have been signed off ill - and  the compo wasnt that  good ( hundreds)

and your fren certainly shd NOT  decide  the  issue on "who pays?"
