If for example , you tap your finger very very lightly on the  surface of an object, does it make a sound , even though you can't hear it ?

Try it on your ear - I think yes is correct.

If you define sound as the existence of sound waves, then yes.

If you define sound as how the brain interprets those waves,  then no.

Yes, it does. If someone happens to be near you, they will most likely hear it.

Surely sound only exist if there is a  device to capture and process the waves - i.e. ears

Yes, Baz. But if you're deaf then you wouldn't hear it although someone else would.

Yes you ca hear it and you can feel the rhythm it cause by vibration that travels through the material and into the air.

If a man makes an assertion and his wife doesn't hear it - is he still wrong?
