Small bussineses won't be able to do this and keep going so either they will close or lay off staff

It is sad that Labour dont seem to have learnt by previous mistakes (of all Partys).The big problem with raising the minimum wage by such an amount is that those above them will want more, who would supervise for little more than just turning up.  And then of course the junior manager wants more, the middle manager wants more and so on all the while it is causing...

I think you are right, webbo. My sister has already decided not to take on an apprentice at her small MOT and repair garage.  Usually she takes one every 2 or 3 years to train up.

Yes this will close many small business and local charities.

This was my reply to recent OP on here:

 it reminds me of the Harold Wilson brainwave in the mid-60's when he introduced something called Selective Employment Tax (SET).

This was going to raise billions, and was a tax based on the number of employees at each company, so, the more employees, the more tax revenue. Simples!

Cue mass redundancies and increased unemployment. I think we've been here before. And it aint looking good.

And big businesses will pass the cost on to ... us.
