If you know what Internecine means but are not sure about A or B, interbellum can sound too 'pretty' (French - belle) to be correct, whereas interregnum can sound like the period between 'reigns' and perhaps the more likely.

The choice would be incorrect but the reasoning makes sense.....under pressure.

Sorry Tora, this isn't a worthy TWAU contender. It's just a general knowledge "you know or you don't" type thing. They haven't taught latin in schools in years. Most people won't know bellum means war.

I am 50 plus, and consider myself well educated but I do not know latin and therefore would have had to take a guess.

I did do Latin at school and did know the answer - but it doesn't follow that those who weren't so fortunate are thick.

I attended school throughout the fifties where I was taught history and latin. None of those words came up during either subject. I do know the meaning because whenever I come across a word I don't know, I look it up but discovering those words came long after I left school.
