Towards the end of his life he also cared for his wife Prunella Scales.  A great actor.

Ahhh.  Such a nice man and so devoted to caring for his lovely wife.  Poor Pru.  How very sad.

This is sad news indeed, he was a fine actor.

RIP Timothy.

I have, very recently, seen him in a trailer for a forthcoming 'something or other' with Trudi Goodwin.

He was always very watchable and seemed to be a genuinely nice man.

Very sad news.

Very sad to hear this, Pru will miss him dreadfully

Very sad news he always seemed like a really nice man

Oh that's so sad...he was a rock for Prunella. In fact, I'd expected her to precede him.

A good man and a strong Actor. R.I.P. Prunella will need her family's care and love more so.

I'm thinking the canal progs must been filmed a few years ago then...

A good life, well lived.

Samuel is so like his dad it's quite unnerving. It would be interesting to see him play some of Timothy's theatre roles

Yes sad news. Like pasta I thoughy Pru would go first. They seemed to be such a devoted couple, rare in the entertainment industry

That is so very sad to see. A truly devoted couple. Normally I might just read an obituary abd think that the person had attained a good age etc. but bearing in mind how much he did for his wife it must be quite devasting for the whole family.

Tim first noticed Pru's symptoms some 23 years ago and it was not until 2014 that she was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Watching their series of Great Canal Journeys was touching and there was a further broadcast of her illness and the effect it had on their lives in 2023 following their Diamond Wedding. Pru looked fine but the strain on Tim was obvious and I thought for some time that he might die before her. Sadly, I was right. RIP Tim, a lovely man and a great King Lear.

Aha, he is in the final episode of Doctors.

That was what I saw.

A last opportunity to watch him in action.

//rare in the entertainment industry//

I don't think long relationships are any rarer with actors than with other professions - just that the split-ups get more publicity.

Very sad news. R.I.P. from me too. He and Pru used to support and visit a drama school for kids near Bradford (my daughter went for a Summer school) - they gave generously of their time.

So very sad.  I am so sorry to hear this news

Never mind about King Lear, His finest performance was as Bradley Hardacre in “Brass”:

“I haven’t got time to waste here – I’ve got men to sack!”

And there was Professor Furie in just one episode of “A Very Peculiar Practice” :

[just finishing eating a steak] “This a second rate cut from a third rate animal cooked by a fourth rate chef.”

“Then why did you eat it, professor?”

“Because I was bloody starving! Tell chef I’ll meet him outside for fisticuffs in five minutes.”

“Pru will miss him dreadfully”

Depends. My friend’s mother had Alzheimer’s and was quite advanced. Her husband had a heart attack and died in hospital. They never told her and she didn’t ask what had happened to him.

RIP  Timothy, and thanks.

RIP ...

A brilliant actor - I saw him once at Chichester in Caryl Churchill's A Number - a two-part play with his son Samuel, playing father and son - both excellent.   And his love and care for Prunella was wonderful.
