//Sir Keir Starmer is in a new row with leading company bosses as his government attempts to force around 2 million young people back into work.

As work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall unveiled the “Get Britain Working” plan in the Commons, a major business organisation – the British Chambers of Commerce – warned that Labour’s policies are more likely to lead to job losses.

There was similar criticism from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), with both organisations pointing to the impact of employment rights legislation and the rise in national insurance dubbed “the jobs tax”.//

Didnt many of this say this only the other day?  It's as pain as the hole in your ass, unless your username begins with n or g.

What a disaster, in this ncase lead by the Sociopath SIR 2TK, Rachael from accounts and the GOAS.  None whom have ever run a business.

Under the Wilson government ther was a slogan I'm backing Britain which ended up I'm backing Britain on the dole.

www.independent.co.uk redirected you too many times.

No problem is there ? Lower the pension age, let folk leave the rat race, employ youth and train them for the job positions. Sorted.

No idea what's going on there, OG, but the bit I copied and pasted from the article says it all.

YMB, we did talk about it the other day and this is the evidence for the few here who were in denial.

Would be great to get 2 million young people back into work. However, I wonder just where the 2 million jobs will come from.  My grandson (16) can't get a job for love or money - has handed in his CV to many firms and just doesn't hear back from them. He's also had a couple of interviews with no success.  Maybe it depends where you live as Abbey seems to be offered jobs left right and centre!

Unless they've got an apprenticeship of some sort, do kids in Scotland not stay on at school until they're 18 as they do in England, maggiebee?

Far to many young people looking for Tec jobs, the Tec jobs have been saturated, put they continue to chase jobs that are not there, why? Maybe they see it as an easy option without getting their hands dirty. Other than that hang on in uni for as long as possible.

How about the millions of illegal immigrants who are not working and on handouts? Many housed and fed in well heated holiday accomodation and kept warmly clothed because of the cold weather. Notice the targets of this ulcer of an administration once again? They have had a pop at the elderly, then the employed, now the young or ill people   ...   but not the new and exciting recent arrivals.

No, naomi, all kids in Scotland don't stay on in school till they're 18 - I went to university when I was 16

Thanks, brainiac.

//he Tec jobs have been saturated,//

That my son is sheer garbage.  Not that I expect anything different from you.

I'm afraid it is only going to gt worse for young people.  Unaffordable minimum wage coupled with increased EHI and then the icing on the cake that you wont be able to get shot of people.  It's the last one that will hit the young mainly since emplyers wont want to take the risk with someone with no experience.  Imagine getting someone who not only cant do the job but hates it but of course cant go anywhere else because they dont want the hassle either.

Sad times ahead for the young, but then they need to understand what a Lbour Goverment is about.

All this try and get all school leavers into Uni started under Blair, nicebloke who seemed to think that all youngsters should go there.  In truth many are not suited to Uni and should go on to do an apprenticeship or other type of work.  Many who have gone to Uni are now on the dole as they can't get jobs and also have big loans which many will never be able to pay back.  Many school children do not either want or have the chance to stay on until they are 18 and would rather be out earning a living but now are being told they have to stay on and so get bored and do not really learn much by staying on and often become disruptive, spoiling it for the ones who want to stay and learn.

Nicebloke, yesterday you were denying the budget would have a detrimental effect on the jobs market.

The building industry have been crying out now for a few years for plumbers, brick layers, roofers, electricians, gas engineers you name it. But to much like hsrd work for most.

Not a clue.

The building industry want experienced builders.  Getting to that stage is an issue given apprenticships are nlike rocking horse poo thanks in many ways to Blairs Uni obsession.

And now, couple that with the right to WFH, not be sacked etc no one will want to pay to train anyone.

This is just one of many jobs I've seen advertised in the window of a shop/ post office that I pass most days, its now been in the window for 3 plus months.

Aprentice require to learn all aspects of solid wood floor laying. Wage while learning, I believe it was around £12 per hour well before the Budget. Its was still up for grabs yesterday when I passed.

Who on earth advertises in the window of the Post Office these days.  Where on earth do you live, are you tie warped to the 70's?

You need to advertise on Social media to attract young people.

And its not really an apprentiship.  If it was full carpentry maybe but this sounds like a cheap labourer.

And who's to say its not on a web site and advertised elsewere? YOU? what a negative angry person you are.
