Hi, my car has just started to over rev. While parked it is at 1.

Is it something that needs immediate  attention? As I have a 150 mile round trip tomorrow and would rather not break down.

thanks

Sounds like over supply of fuel/air, probably injectors, yes I'd say it needs looking at. It'll probably go ok but you'll get through a lot of fuel and you may get impromtu acceleration. I wouldn't want to go 150 miles. What is the year make and model?

More info - make/model, petrol/diesel. 1 - is that 1000 rpm?  It's increased - what was it before?

Get it looked at if you're concerned.

is it overrevving constantly at the same rate or is it up and down?

It's a 15 renegade jeep. Petrol

i say 1 but it's probably 1000 🤷‍♀️

if I was parked it would have been 0 before

is it constant or varying?

Question Author

If I'm parked it's constant at 1(000)

not sure when I'm driving as I only popped to the supermarket and although it felt and sounded over revving I couldn't tell is it was varying.

start and leave it running until the temp guage gets to towards the middle. Do the revs drop when it's warm? Could be the sensor that enriches the fuel air when cold if not (equivalent of the old choke)

Question Author

I really don't know. The trip to the supermarket is a less than a mile.

And it's cold here 😱

so do what I said. If it starts high then lowers as it gets warm, that's normal.

Question Author

Ok Thanks

How long do you think it needs to drop to normal?

And if it doesn't should I still drive it?

wait until the temp guage gets near the middle, it should drop by then if it does not there is a problem.

That's the trouble when everything's automated - more things to go wrong which can't be repaired at the roadside.

Bring back the old days, manual choke, adjustable carbs, feeler gauges, etc.

Don't forget the bloke with the red flag!🤣

Well I've been sitting in the car with the engin on and the revving has gone down slightly.

Temperature is not quite half way. It doesn't usually get much over half way so I'm hoping with a little time it'll calm down. The after Christmas get it into the garage.

as long as it's not up and down like a fiddlers elbow, I think you'll be fine.
