So it seems he was spoken to by the German authorities.

He had made threats saying he was going to target Germans and create international attention, he was spoken to by deradicalisation experts. They come to the conclusion he wasn't a threat.

He should have been thrown out rather than given refuge.

The clue is in your post Clone deradicalisation experts to many so called experts not much common sense.

yeah who needs experts eh? 🙄

also "christmas" is simply a name that christians tacked onto celebrations that long predate their religion. christmas is no more "christian" than easter is.

Christian festivals do coincide with pre-Christian religious traditions but the dates were chosen for precisely that reason. Regardless of clearly concerted efforts to disparage Christianity, without the story of Christ there would he no Christmas - and hence, no Christmas markets.  It really is that simple.

except the markets would still be there and called something else lol.

But they're not.  They are Christmas markets.

i think you missed the point

I think not.  I understand you perfectly.

so a christmas holiday is a festival - or a christmas break in Teneriffe?  Christ must be AB

I think what Untitled is hinting at is that he didn't attack the market because Christmas is a Christian festival, he attacked it because a) it was a large build up of people in a confined area where he could cause maximum damage, and b) he's a bloody lunatic.

I thought that midwinter festivals have been around for millenia, the days start to get longer, crops will start to grow and we can now feel safe having a bit of a blow out on our preserved winter food stocks, etc, etc.

If I'm wrong, does anyone here know when winter festivals did start? When was the first christmas? Trying to pin our christmas on a chap called Jesus is, to be frank, a bit silly. The semanticians here are really making sillybillies of themselves.

We are getting miles off the point, which is the murder and injury of dozens of people.

The murderer did not target Christians, he targeted Germans and visitors to Germany, because that's who go to German Christmas Markets. For example, I've been to such markets several times over the years, and I'm an atheist.

As Clone said, "He had made threats saying he was going to target Germans".  Not Christians.

Hi Afeist injecting a bit of common sense into this fred I see, Thank Gawd for that. I did point out some of the more off-the-wall posts to the editor

When did chrissy start? before the fifth century and after AD 100 but I would not like to  be more specific

it is a liturgical question

Well, dat would be an ecumenical matter.

oh, here

History. The tradition of a midnight Vigil on the eve of Christmas began in the East, and was observed in the late fourth century in Jerusalem by a Christian woman named Egeria on the night of January 5. The tradition reached the Western world in the year 430 under Pope Sixtus III in the Basilica of St Mary Major.

Afeist you alone realise that a few months after the ascension, they didnt say - hey lets have a sung High Chrissy Mass wiv bells and smells and fings. and as you read about it above was nearer 450AD

afeist in case I get suspended  again - Happy Christmas

As Clone said, "He had made threats saying he was going to target Germans".  Not Christians.

oh can I be an AB usual-suspect ? Germans are christian, case proven ! end of

ellipsis 21:47,you say he was targeting germans and not christians, but i've been to many german cristmas markets and i'm not a german so that sinks your theory.
