Online Charity Shops

I volunteer for a Charity that has an online store.

People donate to charity shops for many reasons – the main being to declutter their homes, but also so that the items can be sold for as much as possible so that money can be raised for whatever work that charity does.

Thousands of people like me who are paid in biscuits and tea work hard to prepare these items. 

There are also many people who are paid to run these charities.  You may consider that they are overpaid, but to not support these charities because of this is a disservice to all the volunteers.

Giggsie - I know that Oxfam passes 80% of the monies raised to the work of the charity.  We claim back tax from the government via the Gift Aid scheme.  If you donate goods you will be asked for your name and details.  If your donation raises £100 the govt will refund £25 of the tax you have paid that year.

Khandro - I know that we (Oxfam) are unable to send to EU countries.  People tend to have things sent to a UK address and then posted on.  Maybe, if your purchase is envelope sized, the relevant shop/charity may be able to send it by 'normal' post.

I know there are still bargains to be had. My current favourite jacket is well over £300 new, I bought it from a charity shop with tags on for £60
