Did a lot of good in his lifetime including getting homes built for people on low wages as was shown in many TV programs. RIP Jimmy a long life lived well. It was never about him like with many these days. He even helped me in getting a job after his talks at camp david between Israel and Egypt as I went to work in The Sinai working with the MFO which he helped set up.
carter cared deeply about service and about doing what he thought was right for the country and the world. he continued doing that well into his 90s. he was hardworking and thoughtful and deeply empathetic toward those who were different from him. it's a great shame that he lost to reagan in my view... i think the US would be a better place if he'd had another four years.
looking at an american president of that calibre... one cannot help but look at the one about to take office and feel profound despair.
PP please give it a rest. This thread is about the passing of a good man who was also POTUS. Comparisons not required.

FDR and Abe are always at the top and Harding ( deleted) was in the bottom third.
As others here have said, to those disrupting this thread, shame on you! bo - recall bias
"The nadir of his presidency came in April 1980 when he authorised a daring (/over)clandestine mission to rescue 52 diplomats after Iranian revolutionaries had seized the US Embassy in Tehran the previous November. Operation Eagle Claw went disastrously wrong. Three of the eight helicopters suffered mechanical problems before they reached the desert staging post. Carter aborted the mission whereupon a helicopter collided with a transport plane. Both caught fire and eight servicemen died. "I am still haunted by that day" Carter wrote in his memoirs. " It was one of the worst of my life"
Oh Oh that awful trolling disruptor PP is er trolling again.
