Made with chilled Absolut Elyx vodka, a hint of fresh lime juice, stirred or shaken, and sparkling with a one-carat diamond at the bottom of the glass, it will cost you around US$20,000.

Certainly dont and even then the beer is often rubbish. I used to occasionally sup in the Sheratan in Bruxelles when the bosses were paying plus they would stay open until 3. Sometimes would stop over the Crowne Plaza over the road from the Sheraton, they had 25 McCallan on. 😁 Had a big suite there too once, to sup the McCallan in.
Reminds me of a time when me and my friends went to Paris for the weekend in 1989.
We thought we'd treat ourselves as a one-off and went to a night club on the Champs-Élysées. We managed to find one that only charged a tenner entrance (all the others were £25+) .... plus we got a free half pint on entry.
We duly supped our "freebie" and wondered why the nightclub was almost empty .... well we soon found out .... one of my friends went and ordered a half pint without asking how much it was. The look on his face showed it all when he came back with his half pint costing £6.00 ..... that's £12 for a pint of lager 36 years ago.
Needless to say we supped up and left ....
I'm guessing, Melv, that your friend visited The Cavendish Hotel, prior to going to Il Lupo across the road. To be fair, it is the sort of place that some customers arrive at by helicopter, so it's not likely to be cheap!
My only visit to The Cavendish was as a guest of the structural engineer who worked closely with the Duchess of Devonshire on the re-design of the building. (I suspect he got a decent discount!). The food and drink was excellent, with a wonderful relaxed atmosphere (without a hint of the 'stuffiness' that one often finds in 'upmarket' hotels). It was one of the best evenings out I've ever had!
Smurchops at 6.21pm - that's exactly what I did in an hotel in London. Bear in mind when I mention the cost, this was over 10 years ago. My wife and I had been to a show for her birthday, and before heading upstairs to bed we thought we'd have a nightcap so I asked for 2 G&Ts. After the elaborate performance of making them (shaved lemon peel, juniper berries etc..) the barman pushed them across the bar to me and said £52 - so with inflation £75 today - with that I pushed them back, said "no chance" and we went to bed.
I expected to pay a premium, but that was taking the-***.
