It's one of those personal job references and this is what she described me as.  Is this OK?  She gave me a copy of the reference, but I don't know what to think about 'shy'.....???

I would say it depends on the job. If 'shy' would be a benefit in the role it's fine, of not then politely ask her to rephrase it to suit the job you are going for.

It means bashful. Nervous of social interaction with unfamiliar folk. Likely to avoid such situations. Timid.

Are you shy? It's not a good comment in a job reference

You don't come across as shy.  How do you know this person?

I'm really shy believe me.  It's been my 'disability' lifelong.  I just thought it was an odd word for a reference.  I've known her since I was about 13?

I thought you like to keep yourself to yourself not involved with your colleagues et cetera if so it seems a reasonable comment

Odd word to use. I'd have used "reserved".

Some common synonyms of shy are bashful, coy, diffident, and modest. While all these words mean "not inclined to be forward," shy implies a timid reserve and a shrinking from familiarity or contact with others.

Depends on the context and the job.

Shy with colleagues - not an issue imo

Shy with customers a big issue imo.

As 12.55 .... "reserved" would have been a more suitable word.
