I thrive on praise!

In my Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary (!), under swell(ing) I have about 70 entries in alphabetical order. Starting with ltters H to L, there are 11 entries. Of these, THREE have 4 letters and they are Hove, Kibe and Lump.

So I reckon the answer is HOVE (as in Brighton and Hove)
There's more....

Under "creek", I have 12 entries - the last one being WICK, as on the North East coast of Scotland (Oh, this is soooo easy!)
earthakitten, the Welsh island in no.62 appears to have two variant spellings, either Caldey or Caldy... However, as the answer required is a 9 letter place Kirkcaldy must be correct. Moreover, this Scottish town can only be spelt in this way to the best of my knowledge.
best wishes (S).
Hi sarumite - Do you think I've done enough to tempt earthakitten into buying THAT reference book?
Hi Crofter - sounds like "Stirling" work to me .... think I may also be tempted to get a copy!! ........ (sorry to hi-jack your posting earthakitten).
