Straight to the point on this one. My wife was 'forced' out of work (family run company and made things difficult for her). She gave no notice to quit just walked the walk. Now can her previous employer refuse to write her a cv, or can she just have one draighted up to save her the hassle of asking them for one

Why should her employers write her CV for her? They can write her a reference but she should write her own CV. There are lots of sites that can help her with this.
People write their own CV's - she should do this herself. They can give her a reference - it's against the law to give a bad one. But she should do her own CV - or sometimes you can pay people to do it for you.
(Thanks for my dad for this!)

DOHHHHHH I should have put reference from her ex-employer and not CV
She can`t write her own reference, and they may not be willing to give her one.It is always better to work your notice no matter how intolerable the situation.
They are not under any obligation to give her a reference.
