When I have been there I found they called coke and so on Soda which confused me.
They have diffferent names for things because they are a different country and the language has evolved differently.
Even in England we have different names for things.
I grew up in London and always called a bread roll a Roll so it was Cheese Roll for example.
When I moved to the midlands and married a midlands woman she always called them a Cob. I had never heard the word Cob before.
I am so used to this I now sometimes call them a cob as well

Blyss - this recipe is for you. I was born, raised and still live in the Southern USA - so I KNOW good biscuits to eat with gravy. This sounds like it will never work - but it works EVERY time - and they are GREAT. Sorry, but you will have to do the conversions - but the amount of time and effort you save will make it totally worth it for you.
Light & Fluffy Biscuits
1-1/2 Cups Self Rising Flour
Stir in 8 Ounces Whipping Cream (Not Heavy Cream)
just until the flour gets wet.
Just dump it out on some flour and pat them out and cut them out into round shapes.
Bake 400 - 450 until brown.

Osprey - I live in the Southern part of the USA - Chattanooga, Tennessee and this is what we call them:
(1) biscuits - we call them cookies.
(2) chips - we call them French Fries
(3) broiling - we broil things in the oven and we also grill things on the grill.
(4) a cup of something as a measurement
and does anyone know why, other than just to be different? I am not sure why originally - but the reason we do it now is that we were raised doing it that way and our measuring cups all have the cup measure on them as well as the fluid measures.
