T-cut car?

Someone side swiped my car in the office car park yesterday and kindly drove off. I now have a nice large scrape down the front side of my car. Is there a cheap way to deal with this rather than go through my insurers? Would t-cutting help? I am a complete car novice so any suggestions would be much appreciated - have only had the car 3 months :-(

it depends on how deep the scratch is. t-cut is very good for surface scratches.

If the scratches won't polish out with T cut, and you don't have the neccesary skills to repair the damage yourself, then I'd suggest that you call in one of the mobile smart dent/scratch repair people- have a look in yellow pages or the web, there's loads of them around now. They come to your home and are a lot cheaper than going to a main dealer.

The chances are, if you went through the insurance, it'd go to an approved garage and they'd use one of these people anyway!

As a general rule with scrapes and scratches if you run your fingernail over them and you can easily feel it then it's probably too much to try and get rid of yourself.

I have used t-cut in the past and never found it to be great. I was recommended by a friend of mine who works in a car modification garage to use Maguires Scratch-x. It works the same way as t-cut although seems a far more professional product. It worked wonders on a few scratches on my car but having said that they weren't that deep. you wouldn't even know the car ever had scratches on it now. It's about �8 a tube.

Back to your original question you can get t-cut almost anywhere. Halfords do it. It seems to be the most common on the market. I just find it's good at giving your car a freshenss if you use it all over. Not very good with scratches.

When you say 'scrape' it sounds as if the damage has gone lower than the paintwork. In that case, neither T-Cut nor anything else will help.
If the metal is bared or dented, the damage will have to be filled and repainted. Filler and touch-up paint are easily available in motor shops but it takes a fair amount of experience and practice to get a good result. I wouldn't recommend it Nicky if you don't have that experience. However, if you know a friend who does then it will be worth sweet-talking them as the filler, wet-and-dry paper and paint will only cost a few quid. It will take about a day.
Failing that, one of the local mobile mechanics/body repairers will do the work for a reasonable amount - even while the car is at your place of work. Otherwise, you will have to go through a local repair shop or the insurance, but that is the most expensive method.

you can buy t - cut at any place that sells paint for spray painting cars. i dont no where you live but round about where i stay its autopaint so just have a shop around
