UK passport holders get admitted for 28 days on arrival without a visa.

Longer periods either require a visa, or to leave and re-enter. The latter option can be done a maximum of 3 times before having to be out of the country for 90 days.

Trailfinders do a visa service: For Thailand it costs 50... 25 visa processing fee, 25 Trailfinders fee which includes insured postage return of your passport. Better than going up to the Embassy yourself - anyway you cannot go and come back with a visa in the same day - it takes them 3 days... you post Trailfinders your passport via Special Delivery with completed visa form and payment...
I'm sure the system in Bankok was free and relatively hassle free when I was there last year..
