pc started to run slow

Don't know what else I can try.I have done a System restore,cleared cookies and internet files done a defrag. I have checked for viruses.I play dominoes and I get to board and can't get nothing to move. msn and messenger are ok. Grandson can't get his cbeebies when something starts to play it is like a record sticking best way I can explain it.pages takes minutes to load.I have windows xp and pc is only 1 year old.This just happened all at once.Will get someone in if I can't get any more advice what to do before I tear my hair out.Thanks for any helpful replies.

Thank you for your reply and yes that is exactly what seems to be happening but could you please tell me in understandable terms what I can do to sort it out thanks.
