I don't know anything about these apart from they give you directions. I want to buy one for the inlaws for Christmas. but the prices seem to range quite a bit, some are way beyond my price tag. Can anyone recommend a decent one for 100 or less? or are these not worth buying? They are semi retired and go on lots of short breaks or weekends away driving in the UK, and sometimes but rarely driving in Europe if this makes a difference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about the sub-100 units, suspect they're not up to much. I've been using a TOM TOM GO 300 for over a year and it's very good. Some of the TOM TOM range come complete with mapping for UK and whole of Western Europe. For those that don't, you can buy additional map cards, (SD cards), for either whole of continent or individual countries. I have the one for France and it's paid it's many a number of times. Perhaps you could buy them a 100 (ish) voucher towards one of the units ? Friend of mine in Texas recently bought a plug-in for his laptop to give sat-nav use. Works so-so but his wife now has to sit in the rear of the car 'cos the laptop sits on the front passenger seat. Stupid, but cheap.....or maybe not. Depends upon how well you in-laws get on with each other, I guess. Seriously though, having to look at a laptop screen on the passenger seat is downright loony and dangerous IMHO.
