I missed a bit of the first episode but thought I'd catch up after the 2nd. I'm still confused though ! What has the Brit on Death Row to do with it all ?

I think that bit becomes clearer in part 3.If you look at the teaser for part 3 Gardner's mother recognises the leader of the soldiers,who were arrested at the airport in part 2,as being the man whose life Gardner saved in the Falklands (whi i think was his best friend).He also featured in Gardner's nightmares.
