fishy smell

There is a really bad fishy smell coming from bedroom 3 and we cant find the cause! Do you have any suggestions

Hi there ... This might be a long shot but plugs and sockets smell like fish when they are overheating. xx

earthakitten, is on the right track,but the first thing to check is the lampholder,then plugtops,sockets etc.

Another longshot but was it decorated recently? many paints and even wallpaper pastes have unpleasant smells these days!

Have you checked under the floorboards?

I agree with checkin out electrical sources - dust on lampbulbs also smells of fish....... Second thought is damp somewhere , than can also cause bizarre fish smell. Good luck with yr searce for the stench.

If you have old electric ftgs. they could be of 'bakelite' construction and these smell as you describe when overheating.

Or if you have had a disgruntled lodger who has left, they may have nailed a fish somewhere before leaving !
