Wasn't it because the ad (a man alone in a dark, wet street) made it look as though you WOULD be alone with a Strand?
That's what I heard too SteveD. People didn't buy Strand because they didn't want to be seen as lonely. I also heard that Strand were rebranded as Embassy, so it was not really devastating to the company, just the name!
