My friend is having a very strange experience with her computer. When she is sitting writing her e-mails sometimes a disembodied voice says "You have company" She would dearly like to know if this is a common phenomenon and in any case - who is it?
Many thanks for all replies.

Does she have AOL?

I searched on the internet and it seems some AOL software issues this mesage, and also "You have email".

Search in google for "You have company" and AOL

That is definitely the AOL instant messenger, alerting your friend that someone from her buddy list has logged on.

The sound can be personalised, so she may hear a creaking door, a mooing cow, a manic laugh - anything.

Interestingly, the voice she hears giving that particular message is Joanna Lumley.
