Hi, everytime I switch my computer on and log onto the internet it freezes for a while and takes about 5 -10 mins before I can start looking at web pages. Once it gets going its fine. I use AVG anti virus, I have a spyware defender and they say the computer is working normally. I also use the disc clean up regularly so can anyone suggest what this might be and how I can rectify it? Thanks in advance
I suspect that somehow you have attracted a virus. You could try using System restore, which is Start/control panel/ performance and maintenance and then system restore, try putting your system back to a time prior to you having a problem. Failing that, I would close all your computer down by putting the disc for your computer into the dvd slot, close it down, then put everything back on. You will find you can get rid of the problem by doing this. Best of luck.
i use avg & it has a built in programme to run checks on all drives on my pc.this slows every thing down until i cancel it.
may be this is causing your problem.
i get an indication that this programme is running by the appearance of two avg icons on the bottom task bar.
clicking on the one with a white triangle in the middle of the icon gets you to the menu where you can cancel the pc checks.
hope this of some help.
If your computer is waiting 5-10 minutes before allowing you to do any surfing, you may have the wrong domain name. On some systems windoze looks for the domain and then waits until it gets a response or times out (5-10 minutes) before trying again. Contact your ISP Help Desk and get them to go through your settings to ensure they are right. I only mention this because it happened to me, I changed ISP and they stuffed up the configuration details they sent me. Contacting them fixed it.
