Don't be embarrassed! I used a camping stove at a festival in the summer (one of the wee gas canister ones with the tree metal prongs to balance your pot on). The contents of the pan were good and hot, I poured it onto the plates, then lifted the camping stove by one of the 3 metal prongs, to move it to a safe place to cool down. The thing was white hot, stuck to my thumb and forefinger, and I had to go to the St John's ambulance tent to have it looked at. And I was sniffling with the pain. What a wally!
I think the only thing it needs is air and time.
