computer is slow

Is there away to speed up my computer lately its been quite slow. I've scanned the hard drive, cleared all temporary files and have done a defrag.....its still struggling.

How much free space have you got on the hard drive?

When you have the pc running normally, how many processes are running? (check the task manager)

Impossible to answer, druiaghtagh.

It depends on so many things - the operating system you use, your firewall and anti-virus and so on. I can say for certain that a lot of the processes look like gobbledegook!
And disabling a little thing can cause major problems.

If you have the time and inclination, you could google each process to check that it doesn't relate to something you deleted a long time ago - such as an old printer.

I think the usual number of processes is around 35, without additional programmes running.

I got 55 running with no problems, like Ethel said, depends what you have installed and how fast your PC is, to be able to cope with lots of processes running.

Hi Ethel this is the result after my disk clean up

WEB CLIENT/PUBLISHER TEMPORARY FILES =32KB
COMPRESS OLD FILES =1,585KB

What does this mean sorry to sound vacant.

I've also got 54 processes running from my task manager

gina - those results mean there is not much rubbish in the temporary files. Which is good! kb are tiny.

Have a look and tell me how much free space you have on your hard drive.

gina196ouk, to be honest it sounds like you would be better off with a format and start from scratch. Wait and see how things turn out out after Ethel has finished, talking you through, but start considering backing everything up, and I mean everything!!
