Religion!!!!! Is it the reason behind all major war?

Is religion the main reason behind all major war, act of terrorism, satanic cult, ritualistic murders and rape? Maybe religion should be banned? After all what good does it do other than provoke hatred for non believers and opposers of religious regimes?

No I think religion is an excuse rather than the cause. There have always been wars, way before any religion had a major following... it's human nature I believe and things like this are always going to happen time and time again.

There are similarities and differences among all religions, its up to the people in each religious group to focus on the former and not the latter if they ever want an end to war, hatred and misery.

Has everyone missed the core teachings of many religions here?
I'm a resolute atheist but I hear so many people saying 'Religion causes so many wars' etc to criticise religions, while there may be many things wrong with world religions this criticism stands on shaky ground.
Religious extremists may fight in the NAME of religion (Taliban etc), but I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find a REAL muslim who adheres to the teachings who would support this cause. Most religious scriptures categorically state murder, torture, rape and any other mistreatment to be abhorent to their belief systems. Just because someone says they're acting in the name of God or Mohamed or any other religious figure doesn't mean they are
