no sound on laptop!!

just got my laptop from back from being fixed from a realy bad virus and had to have everything wiped so now everything is going wrong.i have a IBM r50 thinkpad laptop,ive been to IBM site to download the audio driver and still no sound!
not that well up on all this and dont no what to do please help.

i havnt even attempted to find the driver for my cd-rw/dvd drive yet and im getting stressed.

Assuming that the drivers are installed correctly, check that the sound is not muted, and also look for a volume control/wheel at the front/side of the laptop.

done that already,still nothing.when i try and play a cd it says i have no sound card installed but i have.
