When i was a teen,I was always into chart music so have often asked myself would i be in to chart music if i was a teen today...and the answer i am inevitably drawn to is......no ! Its all manufactured drivel with no character or substance.most of the bands are just anonymous...at least chart bands back in the 80's had people with personalities in them with members that people knew.i couldnt tell you the name of one member of westlife and theyve almost got more no.1's than the beatles !!! That says it all really.

The standard of X-Factor final dozen was dire. I cannot undertstand how that was all they could come up with from 70000 auditions. Simon' has made a fortune and good luck to him I suppose. Leona's record is OK but I wasn't impressed by her at all on the show. I ended up only dipping in now and again to remind me how mediocre it all was, and Celebrity Come Dancing on BBC became compulsory viewing.
Pop music, along with popular entertaintment, evloves constantly.
All that happens now is that we see the auditions that most bands go through - albeit on an individual scale - to find members - that's the way it has always been.
By definition, it would be amazing if the winner's record was NOT a Number One - the nation feels they know the individual or group personally - they have been in their living rooms for the last three months. The trick is, can they make any more hits when that advantage is removed. Exceptions such as Girls Aloud and Sugarbabes do happen along, but that is due to good management and marketing, as well as cleve song sellection - as much as anything else.
These shows have a place in modern entertainment - if you don't enjoy the artists and songs, don;t listen to them, but to say that the shows are 'crap' is patently unfounded. They are slickly produced and edited, and judged by individuals who have made eight-figure fortunes by knowing what they are talking about. You may not enjoy what the shows produce, but it's really only entertainment on a Saturday night.
Why not go out and discover a new band? Much more fun!

If the panel are such experts how come acts like the Macdonald Brothers (gawd bless 'em) get to appear on prime time telly week after week, with repeats on digital channels. Ditto Ray who could not even sing You'll Never Walk Alone in tune but had the panel crying with emotion. There must be hundreds of blokes out there with half decent voices who never get this opportunity. The previous series was just as bad.
