My friend is in the USA on holiday at the moment and I sent a New Year text message to him.

Should I have sent it with a prefix at the front as I just sent it as it was (as my mum told me when I was in Egypt she just sent it as it was didn't change the number?)

I don't know if the messages got through.

Thanks

If it's a UK phone being used abroad, you just use it as normal. It will probably cost him an arm and a leg to recieve it htough.
If using a UK phone abroad there is no need to use the +44 prefix. If he is using an american phone then you need to type it before sending your text. Also he needs to have a triband phone. Almost all phones sold in the last few years would have this facility.
