Eddie Charlton from Australia is probably most famous for being a snooker player from the 1960's to 1980's in the UK. Apparently though he was also a noteable footballer, surfer, cricketer and boxer. In relation to the question, he also carried the Olympic torch on part of its journey to the 1956 Games in Melbourne.
