I've been in my job for 6 years and have a nice, bright office. There is going to be some restructuring in January and my line manager has said that she wants my office. Her proposal is that I move into what is currently the cleaner's store cupboard. It's 6ft by 5ft and has no window, heating or ventilation. i don't mind swapping offices but I don't want to spend 8 hours a day in a cupboard. Can anyone advise me what my rights are on this issue please?
You need to speak with the H&S officer at your workplace. Rooms should be well ventilated and have controllable temperature. Of course the space being offered to you is ridiculous although my office is only about 10ft square it does have a window and plenty of natural light.
Dont moan or say anything, work in there for a week or so then take time of sick. Doctor thinks it maybe work related. No sunshine, no fresh air.....just a thought
If you are not being demoted, why should you be expected to work in a non ventilated, no window, cupboard! ?
That would drive me insane if I was being told to do that, there is no way I would accept it - it could even possibly be deemed as Constructive dismissal if you feel that your credibility and standing in the company will be adversely affected by this 'insult'.
Today I had a long chat with my line manager and I refused point blank to move into the cupboard. She continued to harp on about it until I said the fateful words "I'll see what my union rep has to say about it." End of conversation. Now that's what I call a result!!!!
