Does anyone know the name of he spelling programme that featured the somewhat sinister 'Magic E'? British, late 80's. Also remember Geordie Racer and Through the Dragon's Eye????

Yeah the Magic E, and Geordie Racer. You had to trace the shape of the letter on the magic E thing didn't you?!! We made sproggies(?) from Geordie Racer, the salty flat bread. What about Ghost Writer? Didn't have Through the Dragon's Eye though. Where you from?

Magic e and Geordie Racer were both from BBC childrens programmes called Look and Read. Magic E was done by a cartoon wizard who would turn the word 'kit' into 'kite' with his Magic E. Weirdo. Other highlights included Bill the Brickie who added the 'ing' to the end of words and Wordy the floating ghost/puppet thing who enjoyed full stops. Sorry if I'm going on but I remember loads about this programme! Geordie Racer was the pigeon racing story with Kevin Whately (I think the bread was 'stotties' Doolally). Other stories I remember were Dark Towers (superb), The Boy from Space (terrifying), Badger Girl (rubbish) and one about a fairground that I remember little about except the theme tune (Fair, fair on the fairground). God, I must stop! I'm having full on flashbacks about sitting cross legged on the school hall floor watching these odd programmes. Still, it's got to be better than the bleedin' Tweenies eh? P.S Think Ghost Writer and Through the Dragon's Eye were after my time but remember younger bro watching them.

Yup I remember Look and Read! Definately remember geordie racer, throught the dragons eye and Dark Towers. I remember them all being s**t scary, and watching them in school lessons, which was fantastic. We did have to answer questions as it went on though, which was annoying. i do remember seeing through the ddragons eye repeated not so long ago - i couldnt believe it! It looks so naff now!

i'm from Middlesbrough Doolallygirl. Stotties are really nice, Greggs bakery used to sell them but i think they've stopped now.

Ah yeah, I knew I'd gone wrong with that one hence the question mark!! I haven't seen them on sale anywhere, but it was really REALLY nice when we made them.

Do you remember Benser and Bunce the 2 baddies from Dark Towers? Or the scary old man ghost (who was actually friendly)? How about the white knight who, as I recall, was bright white and massive and saved the day by scaring the 5h1t out of Benser and Bunce. I think they were trying to nick the furniture from Dark Towers and the white knight wasn't happy. Wasn't Badger Girl about horse rustling on Dartmoor? I remember that the main girl was bezzie mates with a badger and the baddies rode motorbikes. This thread is ruining my afternoon - I can't stop thinking about Look and Read!! Must work....must work.....

Through the dragons eye was THE best look and read programme we had at school. Awesome stuff.
