Grub boot loader

I recently installed a copy of Suse linux professional 9 on my system alongside windows xp (home) and with it came a very helpful program called Grub which let me choose what opperating system I wished to use, The problem i have now is that I have found maintaining 2 opperating sustems a real waste of time so I decided to remove Linux from my system. I could find no way of removing it from with in linux so i decided my best bet was just to remove the partitions from my 2nd hard drive and return them to NTFS. The problem arose when I rebooted my system and found that the Grub boot loader was still there and not letting me do anything except see a bunch of commands that did not work. So i reinstalled linux and lo the boot loader started to work again. I was able to acess windows but was left with the hastle of 2 opperating systems again. Can somebody please help me to remove this dam boot loader and allow me to boot straight into windows. Thanks in advance.

But I thought Linux was the answer to all our Windows problems, please don't tell me its not all its cracked up to be. Sorry can't help I would imagine a total reinstall would be the only option. But the Linux bods tell us how easy it is to get help.

What does the boot.ini file say? Remove any references to grub from it.

there are no references to grub in the boot.ini file at all, i now have found that using the fdisk /mbr command in the recovery console should work but i am not able to access it as when I press R it claims there are no HDD

boot.ini is windows specific. Grub, I believe is installed to the master boot record or possibly a superblock. boot from the XP install CD and go into the recovery mode. From there you can run fixmbr. This should then boot into windows. One problem you may come across is if you have ext2/3 partitions, windows might choke on them so try removing them before fixmbr. HTH

The way i've got mine set up is that i have a floppy disk with a boot loader on it so when i want to use linux i put in the floppy and it boots the boot loader off that. Why don't you do that? i'm using LiLo and not grub though.

i tried removing the partitions and running the recovery console but still windows will not detect the hdds. If this helps they are both on a Via promise raid controller (Disabled) and they are no NTFS formatted 120Gb Maxator 6 Y120MO S-ATA drives. Please help.

it is alright. i fixed it with help from several FAQ's. for anyone else with this problem create a dos boot disk (in the format options for a floppy disk. Then search on Kazaa for a file called GDISK.exe (not fdisk) and then boot to ms dos and type 'Gdisk 1 /mbr' [where 1 represents the drive number] thanks for all the help
