looking for a dvd/video

Im looking for a film i watched where a mute boy first spoke, while trying to save a horse that had fallen in a bog! I think there was a kesterel involved in the film, but dont know who the actors were or what the film was called? Think it would be dated 1960's/1970's? Can anybody help?
