8 Answers
My missus loves those cheapo trifles from ASDA, so Im going to knock her up a supa-dupa one this weekend, like me nan used to make! What sort of custard do you use - is it a can or a packet to be mixed? (I'm not making fresh stuff with eggs an' all that)
I'm thinking of consistency...

My Husband said (when we were first going out) that if i could make a birds trifle and it made the suction noise when you lifted out the spoon he would marry me..........the rest as they has is history.
Make a birds if it is easier for you, they are the only trifle I like.

i am always complimented on my trifles and i use birds custard powder (2 tblspns each sugar and custard powder and 1 pint milk) in microwave for few minutes but stir it very well before you put it in and at regular intervals during heating. very easy very quick and very nice! you should buy a tub - it can be used with hot desert ie crumble, pie, roly poly etc. im sure that would impress.
I love trifle made with tinned or the fresh custards you can buy in cartons int he supermarkets. No jelly though - yuk but loads of boozy spongy fingers (sherry soaked) on the bottom and lovely thick cream and grated chocolate on the top - lush!!! Oh a maybe a layer of fresh raspberries.
Good grief McNoodle I want one too!!!!!

Julie B I remember that noise! lol! When my mum went into hospital my dad made a Birds trifle, he didn't let it set properly between layers and it all amalgamated, my brothers and me said it looked like sick, he was furious and made us eat it, with hindsight he was probably stressed about mum, I never felt the same about Bird's after that.
I would go with the first post - made up custard slightly thicker than normal
