if a couple are married and have a child, they then divorce and a dna test proves that the husband is not the childs father, can he have his name removed from the childs birth certificate?
A birth certificate can be altered if a court issues a declaration of parentage but I'm not too sure whether there's such a thing as a legal declaration of 'non-parentage'.
The best way to get a definitive answer would be to e-mail the relevant department of the General Register Office: [email protected]
Their phone number is 0151 471 4806.
Alternatively, the local Register Office, where the birth was registered should be able to provide advice.
