Hi. Littlep, I have just come back spent 3 months. amazing adventure..... Wonderful place,Markets..... always ask a price before buying, barter where possible normally half of what asked. let them win a little, ask always for help, then comes in abundance, respect the customs, try not to offend, modest people, Happy, kind and smiling people are the Thais. lovely. If in Karon try O`Tools an Irish Bar,/Guesthouse, Food wonderful and reasonable, help if needed great vacation for us there...............Prothesia..
im only 17 so I may have different ideas of what is great there but go with me here...
In Bankok go to Patpong market, Jim Thompsons house, the Great Palace and the boat trip along the river seeing the way the people live along it.
Also Chiang Rai is really good, in north Thailand and go and see the hilltribe villages and do elephant rides. Also go to the very edge of the Golden Triangle where you can see the Burma border which is cool.
And then Ko Samui which is a great beach. Dont stay there for over a week because there isn't a lot to do. But there is a great butterfly farm and the sea is great.
Also the Thai people are the nicest I've ever met and try all the food. In Bankok you can't really get anything else but Thai food but it's really nice (order extra rice, youll need it!) Be wary of bars with no people in them and of scooters on the Bankok streets. Also in Bankok go to the restaurant Cabbages and Condoms which sounds strange but is cool. I would see the floating market for culture because it really isn't authentic and is just a tourist trap but go to see it for the experience.
have a nice trip, im really jealous!

Read what Compo and the gardener have to say my friend they really know what they are on about
dont listen to most of the people on here just go with an open mind and let it take you where you wanna go
if i may add this tho, i have been there maybe 13 times and loved it every time BUT i would say that where i went and what i did last yr was one of the most memorable.
get your ass up to kanchanuburi, bridge over the river kwai, lovely place and thats where the tiger temple is, if you like tigers and fancy going in with them and i mean going in with thm then you cant beat it, we have some of the most amazing pics of them and us,sitting next to them stroking thier big heads, fantastic.
whilst there you must also pay your respects to all those brave men that died whilst building the death railway. from there you have to visit the waterfall its over 2500mtrs higha nd it goes up in step where there ae appro 7 stages where you can just dive in and swim, its the most beautiful thing ive ever seen and i have been around the world(did mean to make it siound as if i ve beeb there and done that)
Th'land is fantastic just beaware that its the same as any country there will be ppl that will want to take you for a ride.
Enjoy
