There's a new CD coming out soon (yes I admit it, I am a Radio 2 listener) with tracks that you really shouldn't really like, but somehow you do. I was wondering if any of you are prepared to admit which tracks you like, that might be regarded as a little - well, shall we say, naff! I'll admit to loving a 70s track called Substitute by Clout.

Too many to list! I claim my street-cred by knowing that Jimi Hendrix is my favourite musician ever but I do listen to all sorts of "rubbish" too! As for examples, how about Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" or any of the (two) SClub7 songs I have on my PC! I'll get me coat...
I appear to be the only person I know who liked Rolf Harris' Stairway to Heaven.
Rolf Harris is cool. Dont be embarrased about liking any of his tracks. I get knocked quite often for liking 70s pop stars and top cabaret act THE DOOLEYS. They are very much maligned, but were a superb live act. When it comes to that genre of music, most people think of the Nolans (cos of I'm In The Mood For Dancing" still being such a big cheesey dancefloor hit), but The Dooleys stage show knocked spots of the lovely Nolans. There are many who would list Abba, The Beatles, etc, so as not to look NAFF, but I would prefer to name someone not so popular as my favourite act. Beats following the rest of the crowd.
Oh and by the way, just because an act is not trendy to follow, or because they are pop, it doesnt mean they are naff (or whatever term you want to use). When I was following The Dooleys, others I knew were going to see The Jam or Status Quo, groups who were championed at the time by the "so called" TRENDY radio stations and music mags. That is only their opinion, and we all use music for different reasons. Some want their music to make a point, while some just want music as light relief. So all the poppy records and the acts are a bit off fun, light relief (as I call it). There are no messages and they are not to be taken seriously, but the pop bands get knocked because of that, and also because they are also usually produced by people who wouldnt make it as popstars themselves.
The absolutely fantastic Dancing Queen by Abba or any Abba track really. Anything by Nick Heyward/Haircut 100 (such happy songs to sing along to when you're doing some boring job), totally agree with SClub's Reach for the Stars (if that's the title) and blimey there's so many naff tracks I actually like... How about Ryan Paris's Dolce Vita??!!!
With you on Clout, how about: Neil Diamond - Cracklin' Rosie The Motors - Airport City boy - 5705 I could go on, the guilt is never ending....

I had forgoten all about Airport, it used to be my favourite - "so many destinations, faces going to so many places, where the weather is much better and the food is so much cheaper" - I am off to download it (legally of course). Glad to hear that we all have sucj good taste on here!
I shamelessly adore Euro-pop - 'Macarena', 'The Ketchup Song', 'Saturday Night'and so on. They are what they are - definitive pop records, they are lyrical nonsense with a hook you can hang a wet duffel coat on! More!
Question Author
but can you do the dance to Saturday Night andy hughes? I love the Ketchup Song too, and always manage to sing along despite having absolutely no idea what the lyrics are.
'I Love to Love' and 'Dance Little Lady Dance' - Tina Charles. 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' - Baccarat. 'Howzat' - Sherbet. 'Jeans On' - David Dundas.
Just had to get this one off my conscience: Sailor - "A glass of champagne" ...oh the humiliation!
Glass of Champagne was fantastically bad and catchy and soooooooo sexist. I love it. What about anything by Pilot? January, Call Me Round ... Sugar Baby Love - The Rubettes Heart of Stone - Kenny Some Girls - Racey I'm sure I'll think of more.
I nearly put Airport on one of those CDs - if only I'd known...
its the way you make me feel - steps great song!
