Ecclesiastes 9; 5,6 " 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun. So there is no flitting off to heaven as some religions teach. However, the Bible does promise a resurrection. Revelation 20; 12,13 ". 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. But another scroll was opened; it is the scroll of life. And the dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds.
These 'deeds' are how we behave AFTER we are resurrected. Our death has already 'paid' for any mis-deeds we committed while we were alive.Romans 6;. 23 For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.
If we are approved, we are given a chance to continue life on the earth. Psalm37; 9-12.
If not, we suffer total elimination. Revelation 21; 8 But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.
Note. None of the above is my own thinking on the matter. It is direct from God's own word to us.
Sorry but I don't get it? if we pay for our sins in life by death, what's the time frame from being dead, resurrected and judged on our deeds after resurrection? Your answer (sorry.... the Bible) implys that we knock about long enough after death to accumulate "deeds" on which to be judged. It also seems to me that the burning lake is going to be a bit crowded, given the list of entry qualifications.
Sounds like a right load of pony to me.
Gammaray!. I hope you revisit this site. The judgement after we are resurrected applies only to how we react to the knowledge that we actually have been resurrected and from then on have the opportunity to either obey God or not. We will still have FREE WILL. Those who accept God's arrangement will have a continuing flesh and blood life on the earth, as promised at Psalm 37;9-12, and those NOT accepting will be very smartly 'removed', as promised at Revelation 21;8. Any crime we may have been guilty of in this present life is totally cancelled by our death in this life.
This new life will not be subject to sickness, pain or death. [ Rev. 21;4] and that means we will just live on...and on...Some may regard this as boring, but more knowledge will be made available to us. Possibly extended space travel. Rev. 20;12 ' and scrolls were opened'. And think about this. WHEN our life is endless, the distance to the stars becomes unimportant. God said he did not create the earth simply for nothing [ Isaiah 45;18 For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited: I am Jehovah, and there is no one else". So why should this standard not apply to the stars?.
