Damage is not caused on the basis of perceived intent to harm - if it were, then no-one would ever run over and injure or kill a stranger in the road, because no harm was intended, but that does not mean that no harm was caused.
To me, a racist is someone who dislikes or fears someone on the basis of their ethnicity, and reacts in a hostile manner with words or actions. on my definition, Jade's behaviour was racist, whether she intended it to be, or not.
To simply say rthat you did not mean harm to someone does not automatically negate the harm you may have done.
The facile argument put forward be people with basic low-grade mistrust and dislike of their races is that "I'm not racist ... some of my friends are Asian ..." which is meaningless.
I do believe that this issue was blown out of all proportion by the media, but the issue rasied was a relavent one. Jade was intimidated by Shipla, and ensured a campaign of low-grade bullying and an unpleasant atmosphere was created by bringing the other two (quite willingly) into it. Jade carried the can, but the rest of the Housemates, and Channel 4 have nothing to be proud of for letting this situation arise, fester, and then blow up whilst doing little or nothing to stop it.

It wasn't racism, it was bullying. It was 2 mingers and an airhead ganiging up on the prettiest/cleverest girl in the class, just like they do in playgrounds the world over.
I loathe racism in all its forms, including the form that says, 'whenever 3 white people gang up on a black person, it's because the white people are racists'.
Why can't it just be because they're obnoxious idiots?

I watched Shetty being interviewed by Kay Burley on Sky One tonight. Burley was repeatedly trying to get Shetty to say it was racism, in a blatant attempt to secure some kind of story for Sky News but Shetty was standing her ground. Recaling how Shetty's reaction in the CBB House immediately after the row was that it WAS racism and how she 'coincidentally' changed her mind completely after WW3 kicked off, I suspect she made some kind of deal with Big Brother bosses which she ain't gonna break now. Shetty has been shoved in our faces from every media orifice in the last few days, with endless interviews in the tabloids. Talk about milking it for all it's worth. I'd had enough of her superior manner after she'd only been in the CBB House a few minutes, so this is way beyond my tolerance levels. Will Shetty please SHUT THE **** UP & DISAPPEAR BACK OFF OUR RADAR
Shilpa said in that interview 'racism is not in my dictionary...racism doesn't even exist in my world' - so how come she said in the CBB House that Jade & Co's behaviour was racism? She also claims Jade & Co acted out of jealousy of her - a view shared by many people, it seems. I don't agree. It was obvious to me watching that they simply found Shilpa extremely annoying and disliked her personality, and that's precisely how Jade & Co explained themselves on emerging from the House. CBB Housemates last year found Jodie Marsh annoying and attacked her accordingly, yet they weren't publicly crucified for it.
