What can you do if someone is blocking your driveway ? The pavement has been correctly lowered by the council.
Ripping off the wipers and scratching the doors is not a sensible option I know. I have an idea that I can call the police if I can't get my car out, but have no recourse if I can't get the car in ? In the event, I got off and back on with 7-point turns and left a piqued but not offensive note on the windscreen.
If the council were willing to lower the pavement, would they not paint one of those white lines on the road that 'says' don't park across the area? Plenty of houses, especially in restricted parking areas have them.
The white line means nothing in law, they will just ignore that as they will drop kerbs. Sprinkle a hand full of bread crumbs all over the car and let the birds do the rest. A new paint job will no doubt be an expensive reminder!
Put a note on your driveway/gatepost area saying Doctor on Call Access needed 24 hours a day ! That might deter them - I'd tow the Get out of the way ! But not recomended - I'd also keep a diary of which car does it and when and how often etc and put a nice note on the windscreen, escalating into threatening with police action. The best way is gentle encouragement that this is not a great place to park !!
Thats why I put 'says' in inverted commas. I suppose if there's no law, the only answer, is nothing really... Either appeal to them via such measures, or get imaginative as suggested.
Thanks, but what I mean if it is 9am, my drive is completely blocked, and I need to get my car out. Can I call the police, or in any way get the car moved ?
I suspect the police wouldn't be interested. Can I ask the council to remove it ?
When I had this problem the police were not interested as the car had a valid tax disc on it. So no prizes for guessing what happened to said tax disc - it was soon removed and so was the car. Oh and another one I just pushed out they way with my tow bar.
However Traffic Wardens have the power to ticket cars - Jo public does not and cannot force a traffic warden to do so - so their hands are tied. Plus if a car is obstructing access - it's not the traffic warden who has to get his car off the driveway. Asking nicely is always the best thing to do - but in this day and age it often results in abuse or a slap in the face or worse !
if you can get a couple of mates to help you try parking 1/2 " off each end of the car, so it can't move! . take ages to move when asked to and say that next time it may take longer to get out the way. lost/mislaid keys. make sure you have some witnesses (protection ) so rude driver doesn't feel like taking a swing at you.
a point of law, it is an offence to block exit from a property but not to block entry. so the plod are obliged to act when you are blocked in.
if that doesn't cure his/her ignorance then do you have any one with a tow truck & a wicked streak? tow the car to a spot where it will get a ticket. not only will matey get a ticket but the inconvienience will be great!!
