Become an Agency nurse. Pathetic indictment of the way the NHS works, but true.
i'm a 3rd year student and am surprised that you are finding nearly 20,000 hard to live on, considering my husbands wage is 14,000 and we have three kids and a mortgage and we survive.
bank work will pay you more, but is not secure if you have bills to pay. are you on your own, live in london, kids etc...?
after 4 years you could go into community where the pay is higher.
sunny73 I can totally sympathise with you. I agree the pay is absolutely attrocious for the pressures and responsibilities of the job. I took the step to return to university and I am studying to be a pharmacist. Im aware that not everyone is in a position to do this, but when I first was re-evaluating my position I noticed alot of jobs in the social sector accepted a nursing qualification for management positions.
Agency nursing obviously pays well but work is not guaranteed and can fluctuate.
I work weekends in a private care home and the pay is far superior to that of the NHS, and I also find it very rewarding.
start your own business, nursing agency, home care agency if you like children child minding at home. oh dear, im currently trying to get into uni to do nursing.....is it that bad? 20.000 sounds loads to me though who sloggs me guts out as a carer still only getting 800.00 tops. marry a doctor...plastic surgeon im hoping for :-)
