worm/virus help !

hi peeps.

my bro`s computer is poorly. there was a worm doing the rounds a couple of years ago.
it was the one that gave you a window with a countdown timer. i think everyone had it at some time or other.
what i need to know is,
1. how do i stop the countdown.
2. does anyone know of a site that can give us some advice ?
the symptoms are.... sometimes the computer will start, but very little works.. or, he gets a window asking for a boot up disc. he has no back up discs because the system was a self build that he purchased from a friend...
he has been using McAfee security, but it must have got past it...

any and all help needed and apreciated.

i recommend re-installing the OS. that should wipe it. copy off ur files tho

we now know what the problem is...
its either the SASSER or BLASTER.

im not sure how he`s fixed at the moment, but will be in touch with him again tomorrow.
