Problem with stereo speakers
1 Answers
I have a pair of Gale speakers which I bought about 7 years ago. They have up until recently worked fine but I have just bought a new amplifier and found that the right-hand speaker does not function at all, even when connected correctly. I have opened up the speaker and cannot seem to find anything wrong with it, does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks.
Also, the problem was also apparent with my old amplifier so I would say it is safe to assume the speaker is the problem?

Magnet knocked off centre trapping the voice-coil
Burned voice-coil due to overloading
failed connection between speaker terminal and voice coil
1 or more failed components in the crossover unit
Some hi-fi speakers have an overload protection fuse which could have failed ( this is the only one I can think of that you should be able to fix yourself).
You assume that the problem is with the speaker; to be certain you should swap the left and right speakers and check that problem follows the speaker - if not then clearly the problem is with the amp.
