which combi hammer drill is best??
5 Answers
Thinking about upgrading my 14.4v drill driver for an 18v or 24v but cannot decide which is best.. Lesser known makes are cheaper for the same voltage, but do they work as reliably, does the battery charge in 1 hour, and how long does it work when compared to the better known and more expensive brands?

I bought a makita bog standard drill/driver for about 100-00(12v) & it came with 3 batteries & a 1hr charge. My 18v hammer drill is a nutool, & it cost about 20-00. I don't use this very much, as I thought what's the use of paying a lot of money for something that's going to be left in the garage.BTW the nutool is a 3 hr charge. I hope this helps.
Cheap tools are false economy. Quality makes such as bosch, dewalt, makita, metabo and Hitachi will far outlast the cheaper makes.
You can even get a 15 min charger for the dewalt range now. I am thinking of getting a dewalt 18 volt sds drill next, it has been given a good review on the UHM website- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/Tool_Reviews /dewalt_dw999.htm
I'm keeping my eyes open on ebay and I'll get one in the next few days hopefully.
I bought a few dewalt tools from a guy on ebay that is no longer on, called wakedr. He sold dewalt gear very cheap!

My brother is a Kitchen fitter and went through Makita tools every 12 months, he has swapped to RYOBI at half the price and similar quality. I have just bought RYOBI set c/w 2 batteries 18V One+. I am a professional tradesman and they are perfectly adequate, cost 114 for 2 drills, 1 is hammer, plus bought additional charger and two batteries for 50, torches 1 at 9 and 1 at 12. Also bought RYOBI 230V drill for home and as backup at 70 which is also excellant value?
Cant go wrong with makita. Charging batteries too fast reduces the life of them. Just get a makita with 3 batteries and you will never need to charge them in 15 mins. They charge in about an hour. Even Hilti make sum good power tools too. Ryobi drivers are crap although did have a very good router from them.
