The best colour for a radiator

I have been told that the most efficient colour for a household heating radiator would be black. Is this correct? And what is the science behind it ?

Black is the most efficient thermal emitter, but it most certainly does not radiate energy equally over all frequencies.
Ever heard of a black body spectrum ?
I suggest you look up some info. on that.
