RE: the Everyman crossword last week. Remember we debated between Amos and Amok? Well, Kayakamina was correct with Amos, but, as a consolation, Crofter was right with Get dressed. So one apiece! A draw! How fair is that?
I'll settle for a score draw with my old mucker crofter and no doubt well be jousting again in the future. He is a stickler for detail and always picks up on my slips (in the nicest possible way of course)
Yes I always feel the cryptics are more of a challenge and more satisfying as if you are a competent 'googler' you can complete the GK crossword without too much trouble.
Conversely you are always learning something from the GK's.
I agree, K, although my husband does not Google or even use the computer, he prefers the manual route of dictionaries and encyclopaedias and I must admit this keeps him occupied and out of mischief. I think you remember things better when you have looked them up. The only trouble is I get distracted by reading other things and forget what I was supposed to be looking for!
I am delighted that you have returned with this definitive answer. The bottom line is what is published in next week's paper! Well done kayakamina!
We always call the shots as we see them and defend them as best we can! I think it fair to say that we would never fall out over a cryptic clue.
I describe his skills as "awesome" and he knows me as a "stickler for detail". Together, we can get along very well based on that mutual understanding.
As a follow-up to all this, I looked up"so" in Chambers and one of its many meanings is "very good". I wish I'd done that a week ago! The explanation based on "O/S" being "outstanding" just did ring true.
Ignore me, I'm just being a "stickler for detail"! :o)
