Found Painting

I have lived in my house for nearly 9 years. Recently whilst tidying the loft, I found 2 paintings behind the chimney stack. They have been done on chipboard but actually, are not to bad. One is signed by "D Flint". I don't want to get rid of them now and then find out later that they are worth something (if anything) I am not an expert. How can I find out without looking like a complete fool?

You could try getting a valuation from an auction house or a local art gallery may be able to advise you.

Well,those paintings might worth so much or maybe not as much as you think But I'll advice you to contact some auction houses to see how much they think it worths. Or better still, you can check on e-bay and see how much similar paintings like that worth and see if you can put it on e-bay. But don't think it doesn;t worth nothing bcos you never can tell if somebody might like it and would like to purchase it.
Note: What you think worths nothing might worth so much to someone else!!!

I'm sure these paintings are very nice, not old, but nice. You mention they are painted on chipboard..... Chipboard was invented during World War 2 (1939 - 1945) as a substitute for the more expensive plywood. Not being an art expert are 1940's/1950's artists work valuable

Probably not. But if they're any good keep them. I f not try an auction house, as suggested, they won't make any judgements on your competance as an art dealer, it will just be one more lot to them. It's worth a shot.

If you put them on ebay add a reserve to them, a high one if you do not wish to sell them.

Type the artist name into GOOGLE and you will see if it is a known artist and then make a fool of yourself.
